Calling All Goddesses! It’s Your Time to Shine
We kicked off National Women’s Health Week with Mother’s day this past Sunday and I hope you had a wonderful day. A special day to celebrate all women in whatever form they take — moms, sisters, daughters, aunts, grandmas, cousins, friends, and even if they are moms or not…they are all special. So, Ladies — celebrate YOUR goddess-ness! (I know it’s not a word but I like it anyway.) And to forever remain as the goddesses we are, we must make sure we take care of our specific health requirements including our lady parts. For that reason, I want to provide a short overview of specific women’s health issues as highlighted in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or ACA).
So how is the new health care law protecting women?
- The law requires preventive services, including mammograms, at no cost to us
- The law requires coverage of well-woman visits at no cost to us
- The law requires full coverage of FDA-approved birth control at no cost to us
- The law requires coverage of breastfeeding support and equipment to make going back to work easier for breastfeeding moms
- The law requires coverage for services to help women quit smoking at no costs
- You can’t be denied health coverage due to a pre-existing condition
- You can’t be charged more than men for the same health coverage
- You can choose any primary care provider or OB-GYN in your health plan’s network
- Your health coverage must include pregnancy and newborn care

Isn’t it great to be a goddess? : )
