Karl Downey brings a wealth of life and professional experience to KSS Insurance. A lifelong Hoosier, he resides in New Palestine with his wife, Rachel. Together, they are the proud parents of eight children and 15 grandchildren.
Before entering the insurance field, Karl served with distinction in law enforcement and public safety. He retired as Major and Chief of Security from the Indiana Department of Corrections‘ maximum-security prison in Pendleton.
During his career, he was a certified instructor for firearms, self-defense, and emergency response teams, and he also served as a sniper for the State of Indiana’s Emergency Squad. His dedication to public service extended to working as a reserve Deputy Sheriff for Madison County and for Homeland Security, and he later served as a Captain at the Marion County Jail.
After a diverse career, Karl was inspired to help others navigate the complexities of Medicare after realizing how challenging it was to understand the system himself when he turned 65. He holds licenses in Medicare, life insurance, funeral pre-need plans, and annuities, and he is brokered with the major companies in the industry. Karl is also a Notary Public.
In his free time, Karl can often be found playing guitar – a passion since he was 12 – or continuing his lifelong dedication to weightlifting.
